Verizon Fios

Has anyone had a chance to experience Verizon Fios tv and/or internet? I will be getting it in May. I have read a lot of good reviews on both services. I am curious if anyone locally has had the chance to see it. What are some opinions on these new services offered here in Monroeville? I have heard that the picture quality is excellent. Almost like an HD picture on a regular tv. Also, I think it is good to have another alternative to able and satellite tv. The picture is delivered through fiber optics lines. When the weather gets bad the picture won't be lost because of satellite interference. Any thoughts please share...

My wife and i were concidering a change to Fios TV and internet service a few months ago. A family member has it south of Pittsburgh and loves it but when we contacted Verizon they told us they wouldnt have the equipment for our TV's unitl sometime in May or June. We decided to stay with our current satelliet provider and upgraded to HD. We are having the FIOS internet installed but again the equipment wont be in until mid April. They gave us a deal on the FIOS and phone service when we called to cancel our home phone and just use wireless.
I had FIOS installed just recently (Feb 2008) on Elmwood Street. The installation took around 8 hours to do. The picture quality is as great as you hear and the Channel Selection is well rounded. The only con about the Verizon FIOS TV is that the "On Demand" selections are about 1/3 of what Comcast had to offer me in the past. If your the "On Demand" movie buff, I would not recommmend the FIOS TV. The FIOS Internet is actually better than my experience with Comcast but not at a big difference as described in the commercials. I opted for the 15mb/2mb package and it's really not all that better than standard Comcast High Speed Internet Package. The phone service is excellent. All in all I've never had problem with downtime on any of these three services. If you want something new or different, try it out. Do not lock into the 2yr agreement and always ask for the bundle package when ordering from an operator. One last advice, they will give you an outrageous service installation, just tell them you'd rather go with Comcast and see how fast they show up at your door! -- Dan
