Zane Donaldson
POW after Battle of Bulge

Zane P. Donaldson, 88, formerly of Cranberry and the North Hills, died May 28, 2008.

Mr. Donaldson was a World War II and Korean War veteran who was a POW after the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a past president of Photography Club of Pittsburgh and a member of Model Railroad Club of Gibsonia.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Emma Kolich Donaldson and Janice McCullum Donaldson.

Surviving are his sons, Zane Donaldson and his wife, Jamie, David Donaldson and his wife, Linda, and Richard Donaldson; stepdaughters, Alice Elder, Patty Jo Porter and Christine Lewis and her husband, Bill; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Monroeville, where a service was held. Interment was at Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park.

Susan Barto
Mother of two

Susan A. Barto, 96, of Wall, died May 26, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Suzanna Adams; husband, John Barto; brothers, John Adams, Mike Adams, Steve Adams and George Adams; and sister, Mary Doperak.

Surviving are her daughters, Elaine Secko and Elizabeth "Elsie" Kozak; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., Wilmerding, where a service was held, followed by Divine Liturgy in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, Wilmerding. Burial was at New St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles.

Jeane Blank
Grandmother of eight

Jeane K. (Kastner) Blank, 81, of Pitcairn, died May 28, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Blank.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy Neill and her husband, Ken Chalmers, Cindy Wojton and her husband, Rick, Diann DeCenzo and her husband, Louis, and Karen Tokarsky and her husband, Christopher; and eight grandchildren.

Friends were received at Wm. O. Pearce Funeral Home Inc., Pitcairn, where a service was held. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Penn Township.

Melissa D'Ambrosio
Moved to Monroeville

Melissa "Missi" D'Ambrosio, 38, of Monroeville, formerly of the Eastmont section of Wilkins, died May 26, 2008.

Surviving are her parents, John and Sandy D'Ambrosio; fiancee, Martin "Marty" Gribbin; sons, Mark and Anthony Gribbin; brother, John D'Ambrosio and his wife, Joni; sister, Michelle D'Ambrosio; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home Inc., Turtle Creek, where a blessing service was held. Interment was at Restland Cemetery, Monroeville.

Jeanette Hartos
Plum resident

Jeanette T. Hartos, 67, of the Holiday Park section of Plum, died May 28, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Hartos.

Surviving are her mother, Gertrude Klingensmith; sisters, Patricia Nikolauyk and Sandra Missroon; brother, Jake Klingensmith; daughters, Susan Seymour and her husband, Michael, and Deborah Kalimon and her husband, Kristopher; son, Thomas Hartos; and five grandchildren.

Alfreda Harvey
Great-grandmother of six

Alfreda Harvey, 89, of Monroeville, died May 30, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Harvey Jr.; and son-in-law, John Boor.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Boor; sons, Robert Harvey and Ronald Harvey and his wife, Nancy; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces.

Friends were received at Gene H. Corl Inc. Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Monroeville, where a service was held.

Theodore Phillips
Retired teacher

Theodore N. "Ted" Phillips, 72, of Monroeville, died May 24, 2008.

Mr. Phillips was a graduate of what was then California (Pa.) State Teachers College and received his master's degree in education from Duquesne University.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a retired social studies teacher for Wilkinsburg School District.

Mr. Phillips was a member of St. Nicholas Eastern Orthodox Church and its male chorus and mixed choir. He also was a member of SNF Lodge 7. He will be remembered for his love of people, beautiful smile and devotion to his family and friends.

Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Dorothy (Savage) Phillips.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia "Pat" Bilinsky Phillips; sisters, Angie Kuchinick, Florence Godich and Catherine "Kata" Kukic and her husband, Pete; sister-in-law, Martha Craig; and nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were handled by Alfieri Funeral Home, Inc., Wilmerding.

Jack Sands
Grandfather of four

Jack H. Sands, 83, of Monroeville, died May 26, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Rachel Wilson Sands; sister, Laverne Calligaro; brothers-in-law, Raymond and Peter Rosso; and father- and mother-in-law, Emilio and Adele Troia Rosso.

Surviving are his wife, Clara Rosso Sands; daughter, Judy Mashione and her husband, Anthony; brothers, Frank and Harry Sands; sister, Margaret Simon; sister-in-law, Anita Farruggia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home Inc., Monroeville. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Michael Parish, Pitcairn. Interment with military honors was at Penn Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, North Huntingdon.

Jack Stevens
Had son, daughter

Jack A. Stevens, 68, of Monroeville, died May 25, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Roxie Stevens; and brothers, James and Fredric Stevens.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine M. Mudd Stevens; daughter, Diane Stevens; son, Michael Stevens; and sister, Sandra Schlegel.

Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home Inc., Monroeville. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Monroeville. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery, North Versailles.

Ruth Smeltz
Grandmother of 14

Ruth M. "Me-Me" Morton Smeltz, 88, of Monroeville, died May 26, 2008.

She worked at Smeltz Auto Body, was a former president of Monroeville Women's Club and loved to crochet.

Mrs. Smeltz was preceded in death by her parents, Addison and Grace Morton; husband, Lloyd Smeltz Sr.; and sisters, Grace and Lillian Morton.

Surviving are her sons, Lloyd Smeltz Jr. and his wife, Carol, Wayne Smeltz and his wife, Eileen, Glenn Smeltz and his wife, Beverly, and Douglas Smeltz and his wife, Deana; daughters, Linda Boyd and her husband, Terry, and Faye Teti and her husband, Gary; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Grandmother of seven

Julia Furlick Ciocco, 87, of Pitcairn, died May 30, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ciocco; daughter, Joanne Southam; sister, Irene Slavin; and great-granddaughter, Tiffany.

Mrs. Ciocco is survived by her son, James Ciocco; daughters, Brenda Ciocco and Janet Toth; sisters, Mary Linhart and Ann Furlick; brothers, Steve Furlick and John Furlick; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at William O. Pearce Funeral Home Inc. in Pitcairn. Mass was celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church in Pitcairn with the Rev. David Poecking officiating. Burial was in Good Shepherd Cemetery in Monroeville.

Ruth Miley
Grandmother of five

Ruth H. (Becker) Miley, 85, of Monroeville, died June 1, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Mily; and companion, Edward Dwojakowski.

She is survived by her sons, Ed Miley and his wife, Joyce, and Daniel Miley; daughters, Patricia Aber and her husband, Gerald, and Kathleen Jackson and her husband, Tim; brother, James Becker; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edward Anderson
Married 60 years

Edward F. Anderson, 89, of Monroeville, died June 1, 2008.

A World War II Army Air Force veteran, he was employed by U.S. Steel's Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock for 30 years.

Mr. Anderson was a member of Moose in Universal and American Legion in Monroeville.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna (Kish) Anderson; daughters, Catherine Wurzer of Gibsonia and Barbara Conley and her husband, Wayne, of Butler; son, Ernest, and his fiancee, Colleen, of Gibsonia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. Monroeville/Plum Chapel, where a service was held. Interment with military honors was at Good Shepherd Cemetery.

Kenneth Farrell
Married 37 years

Kenneth George Farrell, 60, of North Braddock, died June 1, 2008.

Mr. Farrell was an avid pool player.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and William Farrell.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Papula) Farrell; son, Kevin Paul Farrell of North Braddock; daughter, Nicole Bree Montalbano and her husband, Marc, of Monroeville; sisters, Roseann Rodowski of Florida, Kathy Kraly of Level Green, Mary Pat Whotley of Braddock and Claudia Muller of Pittsburgh; brothers, Larry Farrell of Florida, Hugh Farrell of New Castle and John Farrell of Monessen; and three grandchildren.

Friends were received at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home Inc. in East Pittsburgh. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Braddock with the Rev. Thomas Burke officiating.
