Hans Dressler
Native of Austria

Hans Dressler, 81, of Alpharetta, Ga., formerly of Monroeville, died May 14, 2008.

He was born in Vienna, Austria.

A Holocaust survivor who emigrated to New York City, he earned a doctorate at Columbia University. In 1950, he moved to Pittsburgh as a research chemist for Mellon Institute's Koppers Department. Dr. Dressler continued working for Koppers and then for Indspec Specialty Chemicals for more than 35 years.

He was granted more than 140 patents in the United States and abroad and published a comprehensive book about the chemical Resorcinol. He was a champion for the underdog, an avid tennis player, bridge player and gardener.

His sister, Eva Seinfeld, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Bernice Sirota Dressler; children, Stuart Dressler of Atlanta and Pamela Westmoreland and her husband, T. David, of Middletown, Conn.; brother-in-law, Ernest Seinfeld; sister-in-law, Anne Berger and her husband, Bernard; nieces and nephews; and a granddaughter.

A service was held at Dressler's Jewish Funeral Care, Atlanta. Interment was at Arlington Cemetery in Atlanta. A memorial service will be held at Temple David in Monroeville at a later date.

Martha Petticord
Had two brothers

Martha "Toots" Rosemeyer Petticord, 85, of Monroeville, died May 15, 2008.

A former member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church in Penn Hills, Mrs. Petticord enjoyed traveling with Wilkinsburg AARP and making crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Petticord; and brother, Bud Rosemeyer.

Surviving are her brother, Leo Rosemeyer and his wife, Sally, of Monroeville; and two cousins, Carol and Lynn Ribar.

Jobe Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Monroeville, handled arrangements. Mass was celebrated in North American Martyrs Catholic Church, Monroeville. Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Cheswick.

Arnold Jacobs
Married 55 years

Arnold "Arnie" Jacobs, 76, of Monroeville, died May 12, 2008.

An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Jacobs was known as one of the top bowlers in the Pittsburgh area.

Surviving are his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Juanita Litt Jacobs; children, Richard Jacobs of Monroeville, Marcie Linn Bruckner and her husband, Greg, of Plum and Stephen Jacobs and his wife, Susan, of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Friends and family were received at Jobe Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Monroeville. Interment with military honors was at Restland-Lincoln Memorial Park, Monroeville.

Helen Whitehead
Married 59 years

Helen Harkins Whitehead, 81, of Pitcairn, died May 15, 2008, in Richmond, Va.

She was well-known around town for her many hats and beautiful smile.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Whitehead; and infant son, Kevin.

Surviving are her daughters, Kerry of Pottstown and Mari Whitehead of Richmond, Va.; and brother, John Harkins of Greensburg.

Grace Jae
Married 67 years

Grace L. Jae, 86, of Pitcairn, died May 14, 2008.

Mrs. Jae was a lifelong member of Center Avenue United Methodist Church, where she served and volunteered in many capacities.

Her siblings, Dora Baker and Harry Clevenger, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, John Jae Jr.; brother, Merle Clevenger and his wife, Libby, of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Clevenger; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. this Saturday in Center Avenue United Methodist Church, Pitcairn. Wm. O. Pearce Funeral Home, Pitcairn, handled the arrangements.

Linda Lang
Moved to Irwin

Linda J. McIntyre Lang, 60, of Irwin, formerly of Pitcairn, died May 17, 2008.

The oldest of 43 first cousins, Mrs. Lang was a past president of Pitcairn Woman's Club. She was involved in Pitcairn baseball, served as a den mother for Cub Scouts and was a member of Center Avenue United Methodist Church, Pitcairn.

Surviving are her husband, Denny Lang; and children, Brandon Lang of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Ryan Lang of Charleston, S.C.

Visitation was at Wm. O. Pearce Funeral Home Inc., Pitcairn. A service held in Center Avenue United Methodist Church preceded visitation.

Margaret Fries
Grandmother of three

Margaret Abraham Fries, 83, of North Huntingdon, died May 17, 2008.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Fries; and siblings, Ann Schalles and Michael Abraham.

Surviving are her children, John and Deborah Fries and Anthony Abraham and his wife, Kim; sister, Julie Clark; brothers, Tom and Jim Abraham; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends and family were received at Alfieri Funeral Home Inc., Wilmerding.

Margaret Adamek
Grandmother of 15

Margaret Minerva Adamek, 94, a resident of Beatty Pointe Village in Monroeville, formerly of Churchill, died May 17, 2008.

Surviving are her husband, Carl Adamek; children, Margaret Beiswenger, Carl Adamek and his wife, Kathie, Robert Adamek and his wife, Carol, and Toni Davis and her husband, Ron; 15 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Friends were received at Wolfe Memorial Inc., Forest Hills Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association.

Evelyn Rosato
Moved from Oakland

Evelyn H. Rosato, 77, of Monroeville, formerly of Oakland, died May 15, 2008.

Preceding her in death were her nieces and nephews, Karen Coyne, Elana Kipple, Daniel, Charles, Joseph, Richard and Robert DiNardo and Jennifer Donovan.

She is survived by her nephews, Michael, John and George.

Visitation was at Wolfe Memorial Inc., Forest Hills Chapel. Mass was celebrated in North American Martyrs Catholic Church, Monroeville.

Elizabeth Galik
Great-grandmother of two

Elizabeth Galik, 89, of Monroeville, died May 18, 2008.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Anthony Galik; and daughter, Joanne Shagi.

Surviving are her daughter, Gloria Frick; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
