Lately, our area has been experiencing some rather powerful storms, including one on June 28 that caused the electricity to go out all over town.

The power outage was especially hard on the residents of the senior high-rise on Broadway.

The residents were without power for two and a half days. Many of them, especially those unable to use the stairs, found themselves unable to leave their apartments because the elevators were not working.

It was not a pleasant situation, but thanks to some very kind people, the situation was made a bit easier.

Resident Bonnie Full and the others living in the high-rise would like to thank everyone who helped during the outage, but they especially want to thank Kenny, the building's maintenance man; his wife, Jennifer; and building assistant, Teddy.

These three individuals went above and beyond, according to Full and the other residents. They made sure the residents were OK, supplied them with coffee and doughnuts and helped in so many other ways.

Full also would like to mention that MaryAnn, the building manager, who is also very helpful, was out of town that weekend.

Italian Day at Idlewild

Every year, Westmoreland 500 Club holds Italian Day at Idlewild Park and Soak Zone in Ligonier.

This year, the group will be celebrating on Aug. 15.

Tickets are $18 and can be purchased from Pitcairn resident Rollo Vecchio.
